Qld: Four of Australia's athletes are ambassadors for 2012 Games
Four of Australia's super athletes have become ambassadors to the three favourite international
cities bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Five cities -- London, Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow -- are vying to stage the
Games in one of the most hotly contested Olympic races.
Delegates will present their bids to the Oceanic National Olympic Committee meeting
in Brisbane this week.
Australia's swimming rivals GRANT HACKETT and IAN THORPE have fuelled the competition
by becoming ambassadors to opposing cities.
HACKETT yesterday announced he is supporting London and THORPE is backing New York.
Olympic gold medallist CATHY FREEMAN is also supporting London while former Wallaby
great JOHN EALES is ambassador to Paris.
An International Olympic Committee evaluation has rated Paris, London and New York
as the favourites to win the bid, which will be decided in Singapore on July the 6th.
