Vic: Church damaged in suspicious blaze

MELBOURNE, Aug 16 AAP - A church has received extensive damage after a fire broke out
at a school in the Melbourne suburb of Chelsea.

The church, at St Joseph's Catholic School in Station St, Chelsea, suffered about $400,000
damage in the blaze that occurred at about 1am (AEST) today.

Country Fire Authority (CFA) spokesman Travis Heard said the fire was being treated
as suspicious.

About 70 firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, battled the blaze for almost an hour.

They managed to save some sections of the building.

Police are investigating.
