Vic: Theophanus quits ministry after charged with rape

Victorian government MP THEO THEOPHANOUS has resigned from the ministry after being
charged with rape today.

Premier JOHN BRUMBY says he accepted THEOPHANOUS' resignation and the Labor Party is
expected to select and swear in his replacement on Monday.

Mr THEOPHANOUS held the portfolios of industry and trade .. major projects and information
.. and communications technology.

THEOPHANOUS stood down from the cabinet on October 13 .. after the rape allegations
.. which he has vehemently denied .. were made public.

The 60 year old has been charged with rape and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates
Court' on January 23.

He's accused of raping a woman at state parliament house a decade ago.
