NSW: AMA calls for double of burns beds

Doctors say New South Wales should double its capacity to treat burns victims in preparationfor any future terrorist attack.

The president of the Australian Medical Association's NSW branch, Dr CHOONG-SIEW YONG,has made the call while pushing the state government to hold a terrorism summit for keymedical stakeholders including GPs, clinicians and hospital staff.

He says such a summit could produce a kit for GPs, with information about infectiousdiseases and how they should be reported, as well as a plan in the event of a chemicalor biological attack.

At the same time, Dr YONG says the state's 21 specially dedicated serious burns bedsshould be more than doubled.
