Health authorities should expect significant numbers of nurses and doctors to die when bird flu strikes, according to a New Zealand researcher.
Otago University public health researcher, Dr Nick Wilson, said it was possible one-tenth of New Zealand's primary health care capacity could be wiped out at the peak of an outbreak of avian influenza, and public health authorities needed to act early to minimise the impact of deaths among health workers.
