SARATOGA HOCKEY TEAM SKATES TO TOP.(SPORTS)

UTICA -- Many of them had won state championships before in youth hockey. Some of them hadn't. All of them agree, however, that Sunday was the biggest day in Saratoga hockey history.

And the notion is hard to argue.

Saratoga High won its first state Division I high school hockey title Sunday, defeating top-ranked and previously-unbeaten Ithaca 3-0 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Mike Santamoor, Chris Paine and Mike Paine scored for the winners, who closed the magical season at 26-4-0.

``Winning the high school title means a lot more,'' said Mike Santamoor, the son of Saratoga co-coach Bob Santamoor and a member of three Saratoga youth hockey state titlist squads. ``Everyone on this team has a lot more respect now. To do this at this age level . . . it's the best feeling ever.''
